Compare Jira description revisions, see exactly what changed, and review who made each change and when.
Overview
ChangeLens adds a Text Diff tab to the Activity area of Jira work items. It uses Jira's existing description history to present readable version-to-version comparisons without requiring you to leave the work item.
Getting started
- Open a Jira work item that has a description.
- Scroll to the Activity section.
- Select the Text Diff tab.
- If the description has changed, choose the revisions you want to compare.
If Jira has a current description but no recorded description edits yet, ChangeLens shows the current description and explains that there are no revisions to compare.
Compare revisions
Use the From revision and To revision selectors to compare any two available description versions. ChangeLens shows the revision author and timestamp when Jira provides that information.
Inline and side-by-side views
Use Inline for a compact comparison or Side by side when you want the two versions displayed separately. Added text is highlighted in green and removed text is highlighted in red.
Copy a version
Use Copy from or Copy to to copy the text of either compared revision to your clipboard.
What ChangeLens can read
ChangeLens uses Jira read access to retrieve the current description and description changelog information needed to build the comparison. It does not request permission to edit Jira work items.
Data handling
ChangeLens runs on Atlassian Forge and does not maintain an external MintedTools database of Jira descriptions, changelog entries, or comparison results. For full details, see the ChangeLens Privacy Policy.
Formatting limitations
Jira's historical changelog data may simplify some rich-text formatting in older revisions. ChangeLens compares the description text made available by Jira and cannot reconstruct formatting that Jira does not preserve in the changelog.
