Current stock tells you what is available now. It does not necessarily explain why yesterday's count was different. If you sell multiple products or adjust quantities manually, a change history helps you investigate gaps without reconstructing every order from memory.
InventoryTrace records Wix Stores quantity changes, previous and new counts, reasons, and timestamps, with search, filters, and CSV export. Start the 14-day trial on Wix (opens in new tab).
Decide which questions your history needs to answer
For each movement, aim to know which product or variant changed, which location it affects if relevant, what the previous and new quantities were, when it changed, and the reported reason. A useful record should also let you search by product name or SKU.
Capture changes consistently
- Confirm the item and variant mapping in your Wix Stores catalog.
- Make sure products you want to monitor have inventory tracking configured appropriately.
- Record both additions and reductions, including manual adjustments where supported.
- Preserve timestamps and a reason when one is provided by the platform.
- Review unexpected negative movements or corrections instead of overwriting history.
A basic reconciliation example
Say a product starts with 12 units, a sale reduces it to 11, and a manual restock adds 5. The expected count is 16. If your current store count shows 15, you now have a specific discrepancy to investigate: missed movement, an adjustment, a variant mismatch, or a delayed event. Without history, you only see 15.
What an inventory tracker does—and doesn't do
A change log is an audit aid, not a physical stocktake. It can document events the system receives, but cannot prove that an item is actually on the shelf. Periodic cycle counts still matter, particularly for damage, shrinkage, returns and manually fulfilled orders.
Use InventoryTrace for Wix Stores
InventoryTrace is built specifically for Wix inventory history: it records stock changes, compares previous and new quantities, lets you search/filter movements, and exports the current history to CSV. View InventoryTrace on Wix (opens in new tab).
Build a simple review routine
Review high-value or fast-moving SKUs first. When a count looks wrong, filter changes around the relevant date; document any correction; and retain a periodically exported record if required by your own procedures. A predictable routine is more useful than a sophisticated dashboard no one opens.
